Lenox started as a small art studio that made one-of-a-kind pieces, and after gaining popularity and reputation, it branched out into making full patterns in 1917.Even now, the company is the USA's sole bone china manufacturer. The Lenox, Gorham, and Dansk brands all operate as parts of the Lenox company.

Lenox is well noted for its Presidential Collection of china patterns. The collection is made up of patterns that were used by six presidents in the United States White House. The first was used by Woodrow Wilson in 1918, and the most recent was used in 2009 by George W. Bush. Both this collection and other Lenox patterns are popular with those who hold political offices in America.

Some of the Lenox company's most popular patterns are the discontinued Hayworth and Charleston sets, as well as Autumn which has been in production since 1966.
