This Wedgwood Kutani Crane pattern was manufactured for 27 years by the Wedgwood China company, based in England. Inspired by oriental design, this pattern features a graceful crane surrounded by bright, multi-color floral arrangements in orange, green, turquoise and more. The word Kutani means Nine Valleys and is the name of an area and a village in Japan. Wedgwood paid homage to the Kutani region, a place where porcelain made it's debut as early as 1655. Birds are prominent features on Kutani china. The highly distinctive Kutani Crane pattern is one of the most recognizable pattern ever made by Wedgwood and continues to sell strong on the secondary market.
Our favorite Wedgwood Kutani Crane pieces are the covered vegetable bowl as well as the dinner plate, which is used by many people as a decorative plate.
