This Columbia pattern was manufactured for 73 years (1924 – 1997) by the Wedgwood China company, based in England. Wedgwood Columbia is a pattern that one can go on for pages in describing its design, look & rich history. The dragon looking creatures are actually not dragons but a pair of mythical creatures facing each other with a trophy medallion in between them which according to some, but has not been proven, was designed by Josiah Spode who is the person who invented the method of placing designs on pottery & china in the late 18th century & the founder of the Spode china company which was later bought by Wedgwood.
