This Florentine Blue pattern was manufactured for 60 years by the Wedgwood China company, based in England. The discontinued Wedgwood Florentine Blue pattern is part of the Wedgwood Florentine collection which features dozens of patterns and variations all revolving the ancient mythological creatures known as griffins. Popular variations include Wedgwood Florentine Gold,  Wedgwood Florentine Black and Wedgwood Florentine Turquoise. These "griffins" or dragons were commonly used in princely coat of arms for many centuries. The transition to dinnerware is a natural progression since many patterns were designed with royalty and luxury in mind.
