This Botanic Garden pattern has been manufactured since 1972 by the Portmeirion China company, based in England. The Botanic Garden pattern & its manufacturer, Portmeirion are both extremely interesting due to several factors. The Portmeirion china company was started in 1960 making it a relative newcomer when it comes to the world of fine china if you look at other china Manufacturers like Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Spode,Herend just to name a few china companies which have been in existence for hundreds of years. Even though the Portmeirion company may have gotten a late start they have definitely caught up as can be seen from their extraordinarily beatiful & interesting looking china like the Botanic Garden pattern which has a smooth white background & features many different beautiful flowers & plants on its dishes along with the flower or plant name. The design concept used on the Botanic Garden pattern is not the first time a china company has done so as can be seen from looking at a pattern like Spode Stafford Flowers. While other pattern besides for Botanic Gardens use this concept the Botanic Garden pattern incorporates it in the nicest possible way bringing you a pattern that is cheerful & beautiful at an affordable price & on a dish that is less fragile then most which is what the Portmerion company's founders Euan & Susan Ellis set out to do. Portmerion makes other pattern similar to Botanic Gardens like Portmeirion Botanic Roses which comes in handy for mixing & matching with the Botanic Garden pattern.
Our favorite Portmeirion Botanic Garden pieces are the tea pot as well as the soup cup.
