Hutschenreuther

Hutschenreuther began as the business venture of a porcelain painter named Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther. The private factory was established in Hohenberg Bavaria, Germany in 1814. Hutschenreuther expertly painted cups, fruit dishes, dessert plates, and more. The Hutschenreuther family continued to produce hand-painted porcelain, even after 1848 when the factory was destroyed by a fire. Hutschenreuther's son, Lorenz, established an independent factory in Selb, Germany in 1857. He named it Porzellanfabriken Lorenz Hutschenreuther AG Selb (Lorenz Hutschenreuther Porcelain Factories Company, Selb). The Hutschenreuther family saw their porcelain pursuits rise to new heights, with customers from all over Europe. Lorenz Hutschenreuther would see his porcelain company go far beyond his father's, where it became known as "Hutschenreuther of Selb". Proving to be a capable rival for factories like Haviland and Wedgewood, Hutschenreuther grew his company by purchasing the assets of other German porcelain factories. In 1969, Hutschenreuther of Selb acquired all assets of his father's original company, resulting in Hutschenreuther becoming a single company. While the Hutschenreuther trademark has undergone changes since the 19th century, the lion insignia appears on most versions. In 2000, Hutschenreuther became part of the Rosenthal division of the Waterford Wedgewood Group (WWG).
